The .SE country-code top-level domain name extension was started in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very limited number of domains were booked. Persons were allowed to reserve solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish persons, business entities and organizations could register a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.
